Twenty-Eighth Day

Daily Reading
Psalm 24:1-5

In the morning

O God, our Father, grant unto us all through this day to do not what we like but what we ought. Grant unto us all through this day to follow Thy will and not our own desires. Help us to do with diligence the tasks we don not wish to do. Help us to meet with graciousness the people we do not like to meet. Help us in all things well enough to take them and to show them unto Thee. Grant unto us never to seek to do as little as possible and to get as much as possible; never to seek to evade our work; never to leave to others that which we ourselves should do never to avoid the decisions we ought to make or to shirk the responsibilities we ought to shoulder. So grant that at the evening time we may know the deep contentment of work completed of work completed and of duty done: through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN

In the evening

O God, our Father, forgive us for everything in this day which has grieved Thee to see. Forgive us if we have made the work of others harder instead of easier. Forgive us if we have discouraged others instead of encouraging them. Forgive us if our presence has depressed others instead of making them happier. Forgive us if we have grumbled and complained, and so made things unhappy for ourselves and for everyone else. Forgive us if we have been cross, irritable, bad-tempered, fault-finding , and difficult to live with. Forgive us if we have been ungracious and ungrateful. Forgive us if we have worried our friends, or hurt our loved ones. Forgive us for all the things of which we are now ashamed, and give us grace tomorrow to walk more close to Thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN
