Sixteenth Day

Daily Reading
Psalm 103:8-13

In the morning
O God, our Father, we are ashamed when we remember how so often we hurt most of all those whom we ought to cherish most of all, and how we treat our nearest and dearest in a way in which we would never dare to behave towards strangers. Grant that it may not be so today. Take from us the carelessness, the selfishness, the inconsiderateness, the untidiness, which make the work of others harder than it ought to be. Take from us the lack of sensitiveness, which makes us hurt the feelings of others, and never even realize that we are doing so. Take from us the habit of unkind criticism and of nagging fault-finding, the temper of crossness and irritability, which wreck the peace of any home. Take from us the disobedience which brings anxiety, and the disloyalty which brings sorrow to those who love us. Grant that all through today we may so speak and so act that we will bring nothing but happiness to those whose love is our privilege, and those friendship is our joy, through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN

In the evening
O God, our Father, we thank Thee for everything which has happened to us today, because we know that in it and through it all Thou hast been loving us with an everlasting love. We thank Thee alike for sorrow and for joy, for laughter and for tears, for silence and for song. We thank Thee for any success to lift life up, and for any failure to keep us humble and to help us not to forget our need of Thee. We thank Thee for joys which will be to us for ever and for ever happy momories, and we thank Thee for sorrows which made us go to Thee because we had nowhere else to go. Grant unto us at all times, no matte for good and so grant that this night our pillow may be peace, through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN
